In the Bamboo Forest A meeting between K-ballet pioneer Kang Hyo-hyung and maverick Korean musician Park Da-wool gives rise to a new vision of K-contemporary ballet. Kang, a choreographer nominated for the Benois de la Danse for her ability to translate Korean sensibilities into the language of contemporary ballet, joins forces with Park, who has built a distinctive musical world by blending traditional Korean music with electronic and band sounds. Inspired by the bamboo—evergreen and upright through all four seasons—the work explores resilience and flexibility, emptiness and enduring vitality through the movement of the dancers of Seoul Metropolitan Ballet. As shades of green and stillness unfold on stage, shifting between tension and release, the audience is invited to experience a moment of quiet purification and healing, as if wandering through a bamboo forest.
