Double Bill Death and the Maiden The same music, different movements — two masters’ variations on Death and the Maiden Celebrating its second anniversary, Seoul Metropolitan Ballet presents works by two internationally acclaimed choreographers, Christian Spuck and Alexander Ekman, on one stage. Both pieces take Schubert’s String Quartet Death and the Maiden as their point of departure, yet the two choreographers interpret the music through entirely different perspectives. Christian Spuck’s Das Siebte Blau reveals his signature poetic theatricality and deep musical sensitivity. The work explores themes of death and loss through lyrical yet tension-filled ensemble passages and partnering. Alexander Ekman’s Cacti, by contrast, is a witty and perceptive work infused with humor and satire.
