The KBS Symphony Orchestra

The KBS Symphony Orchestra has been positioned as a symphony orchestra leading the Korean classical music since its foundation concert held on December 20, 1956, which was conducted by its first standing conductor Lim Won-sik. Later, it has been participated by world famous conductors such as Hong Yeon-taek, Won Kyung-soo, Othma Maga, Chung Myung-whun, Dmitri Kitayenko and Yoel Levi.

The KBS Symphony Orchestra, which has grown into a symphony orchestra representing South Korea for the past 64 years, is expanding the horizon of classical music in the country with colorful and interesting repertoire ranging from symphony to chamber music. The orchestra has invited top conductors and artists at home and abroad such as Baek Geon-woo, Cho Seong-jin, Jang Young-ju, Gil Shaham, Chung Myung-hwa, Mischa Maisky and Fabio Luigi to hold a regular concert offering a deep and high-quality performance, an inviting and planning concert to communicate with the audience by season and theme, and 100 or more concerts on a yearly basis for the culturally underprivileged who cannot have easy access to classical music.
