We believe it is our role and responsibility as contemporary musicians to play the music of the times and pass it on to future generations. Also, we are committed to presenting music composed by currently active composers with a focus on the contemporary music which will become “classical music” in the future.
This concert will focus on songs that combine poetry and music, particularly works by female American writers and composers. The first part will present poems written by renowned poets Emily Dickinson and Sara Teasdale, a Pulitzer Prize winner, while in the second section, music composed by Amy Beach, the first female composer in the United States, and Libby Larsen, a contemporary composer, will be performed.
