Photographs chosen by Life, a magazine bearing witness to the 21stcentury
Before a single photograph could make it in the magazine, the photographer, editor, and publisher engaged in endless discussions, or arguments. Things became even more complicated when the article concerned big names such as Ernest Hemingway and John Steinbeck. From thousands of photographs taken in a desert in Africa over the course of several months, only a few got chosen, and because only eleven photographs that remained from D-Day were blurry, the captions that read, “Capa’s hands were badly shaking,” had to be added.
For <Life Photography Exhibition: The Last Print>, 100 invaluable photographs, whose value has not faded over the years, despite the dramatic changes that have occurred, were selected. The exhibition showcases images that illustrate multiple layers of human lives from among the pictures that were featured in the magazine after heated discussions. This was made possible thanks to the dedication of the outstanding photographers who made sacrifices for photojournalism. Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to see articles featuring photographs by eight photographers who have inseparable relationships with Life and their photo essays. -
