The Seoul Metropolitan Junior Chorus, initially established in 1964 as the Seoul Metropolitan Children Chorus, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
With the slogan ‘Sing with Delight, Smile Brightly, Enjoy Yourself’, the chorus has been a cultural envoy of Korea for over 60 years, singing clear and bright children's songs with angelic voices.
The Seoul Metropolitan Junior Chorus has not only popularized Korean children's songs, but has performed the diverse repertoire, such as authentic choral music from Europe and folk songs and children's songs from around the world, broadly appealing to both children and adult audiences.
For more than half a century, the chorus' performance history embodies the evolution of Korean choral music for boys and girls. Since its establishment, the chorus has delivered over 1,500 concerts, including 177 regular concerts (until December 2023), 500 invited performances, 150 broadcast appearances, 220 national celebrations, 10 recordings, 100 opera appearances, and 60 overseas performances, alongside numerous other participation in various performances.
Since embarking on its first tour of Japan in 1972, it has showcased across the Americas, Europe, and various other countries worldwide. Throughout these performances, it has earned warm applause from musicians and audiences around the world, showcasing the unique essence of Korean music and the international flavor of western music. The Seoul Metropolitan Junior Chorus reaches out to the audiences with a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary, from choral to musical, and from East to West.
Specially, it drew attention by performing the entire Messiah and the Coronation Mass for the first time by a Korean boys and girls chorus. In 2014, the chorus participated in the International Forum for Choral Music (IFCM) as a representative of Korea to promote the charm of Korean music. Additionally, through completion of a comprehensive choral performance, starting with the musical The Prince and the Christmas, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019, it is presenting a new direction for children's choral music and taking the lead in the diffusion and development of bright and clear children's music. - Contact us T.02)399-1753
