Seoul Metropolitan Youth Traditional Music Orchestra, fostering new music with the creative sensitivity and a daring spirit, comprises young musicians under the age of 30, majoring in Korean traditional music. Its aim is to shape the most modern and globally resonant future for Korean music based on our traditional music. Starting from the 10th anniversary of the sisterhood between Seoul and Mongolia in 2005, its inaugural year, through 2017 to mark the 40th anniversary of the Seoul-Sao Paulo sisterhood in Sao Paulo, Brazil, it showcased 48 regular concerts and over 280 domestic and international performances to date, committing to expanding opportunities for the public to experience high-quality culture.
In 2014, the orchestra won the best performance award at the Creative Traditional Music Awards for its rendition of ’Dreaming Sejong’ and earned recognition for its performance in a competition against professional performers. United by a passion for Korean music, the Seoul Metropolitan Youth Traditional Music Orchestra aims to create heartfelt Korean melodies that appeal to emotions of all people in the world today, using the Korean traditional music as its foundation.
