A Moment of Uncharted Sound, Awakening a Primitive Happiness.
Two creators, deeply contemplating the sound of today, invite you to confront the most primal of emotions. The familiar voices of the haegeum, cello, drums, and piano are stripped down to their essence—leaving only the raw act of performance and the intrinsic nature of sound itself. Unfolding in unpredictable directions, this experience is anything but conventional.
Composer Jaehyuck Choi, hailed as the "brilliant future" of classical music, was the youngest-ever winner of the Concours de Genève in composition and has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra at the Lucerne Festival alongside Sir Simon Rattle. He leads ensemble blank, Korea’s foremost contemporary music ensemble. Joining him for the first time is Jeonghyeon Joo, an award-winning haegeum player and composer based in both LA and Seoul, recognized as a Young Artist of the Korean Academy of Arts.
Here, traditional instruments merge with electronic transformations, Eastern sounds intertwine with Western composition, and the line between the familiar and the unfamiliar dissolves. In this convergence of sound and sensation, we chase the boundless moment where primitive happiness is rediscovered.

ensemble blank
Like its name suggests, ensemble blank is an open canvas for limitless musical possibilities. Founded by Jaehyuck Choi, Jiwon Ryu, and Wonseok Lee, this contemporary music ensemble explores both the familiar and the unfamiliar—ranging from Baroque to modern compositions — blending tradition with fresh perspectives. Their performances extend beyond music, incorporating space, costume, and movement to create immersive experiences.
True to their name, which was casually chosen over drinks at a pub, ensemble blank defies convention and pushes the boundaries of classical music. By fusing diverse genres and artistic disciplines, they go beyond traditional concerts, offering performances that engage the senses. With a spirit of experimentation and innovation, they foster a dynamic connection with audiences, continuously redefining the landscape of classical music.
Jaehyuck Choi
Composer and conductor Jaehyuck Choi sees music as something truly transformative. He gained international recognition in 2017 when he became the youngest winner of the composition category at the Concours de Genève. He made his conducting debut on the global stage at the Lucerne Festival, leading the London Symphony Orchestra under the mentorship of Sir Simon Rattle. He has studied with Unsuk Chin, Matthias Pintscher, Jörg Widmann, and Paavo Järvi and currently serves as the music director of ensemble blank.
His works are published by Universal Edition and have gained wide recognition. A lover of travel and food, he recalls sharing a post-concert beer and conversation with Sir Simon Rattle as one of the greatest moments of his life. Known for his ability to approach the challenges of composition with humor, he moves between Seoul, Berlin, and New York, continuously expanding artistic boundaries. Through invitations to BBC Proms Korea and roles such as conductor fellow with the Seoul Philharmonic and the Verbier Festival, he has established himself as a rising leader in the field.
